Police recruitment : 288,000 youths apply

In just one week since the start of the six-week application period for recruitment into the Constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force, an impressive 288,266 Nigerian youths have already submitted their applications online.

A statement issued by Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations recently statement that As of 7pm on Monday, October 23rd, 2023, the official recruitment portal, www.apply.policerecruitment.gov.ng, had received a total of 288,266 applications. The portal, which opened on Sunday, October 15th, 2023, will remain open until November 26th, 2023, in compliance with the Federal Character Commission’s requirement of a six-week application period for government agency vacancies.

Out of the total applications received, 217,105 have met the basic requirements for further consideration in the subsequent stages of the recruitment process. Specifically, 217,300 Nigerian youths have applied for General Duty posts, while 70,676 have applied for specialist posts.

Unfortunately, 69,426 applications have been rejected due to their inability to meet the required criteria. Among the rejections, 46,868 were due to exceeding the age limit, 51,213 were for General Duty positions, and 18,213 were for specialist positions.

The online application requirements include being of Nigerian origin and birth, possessing the National Identification Number (NIN), having a minimum of 5 credits in no more than 2 sittings in WAEC/NECO or its equivalent, with credit passes in English and Mathematics, and being between the ages of 18 to 25. Additionally, applicants must have a valid email address and phone number. It’s important to note that SSCE statements of results or certificates relating to examinations taken before 2015 will not be accepted.

Applicants are advised that there are no monetary implications associated with the application process. Furthermore, Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission and retired Inspector General of Police, commended the Nigerian youths for their keen interest in pursuing a career in the Nigeria Police Force.
He reassured them that the ongoing recruitment exercise will be transparent and merit-driven. Dr. Arase urged interested individuals to continue visiting the recruitment portal to apply for consideration.

Overall, the overwhelming response from Nigerian youths demonstrates their increased interest in joining the Nigeria Police Force and contributing to the nation’s security.
