PSC approves dismissal, demotion of senior officers

The Police Service Commission has made significant decisions regarding the disciplinary matters of 46 police officers, resulting in the dismissal of three senior officers and the reduction in ranks of four others. These actions were approved during the Commission’s 21st Plenary Meeting, which concluded recently at the Commission’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

This was confirmed in a press release signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations. According to the release, the dismissed officers include two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who were found guilty of serious misconduct.
Additionally, one Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), one Superintendent (SP), one Deputy Superintendent (DSP), and two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) had their ranks reduced due to their misconduct in the performance of their official duties.

Furthermore, 14 officers received severe reprimands, six were reprimanded, and seven received letters of warning for their inappropriate behaviour. In a positive outcome, six dismissed officers were reinstated following favourable court judgements or a review of their cases.

Earlier in the week, the Commission approved the appointment of two Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Mathew Akinyosola and Slyverster Abiodun Alabi, who now represent the South West in the Police Management Team. Additionally, the Commission promoted the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Oladunmoye Adejobi, to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The Commission also granted promotions to the rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police to 14,052 inspectors who successfully attended the last Departmental Selection Board promotion interview.

Moreover, ASP Edo Stephen Ameh from FCT Command and ASP Abubakar Musa, also from FCT Command, were among the 9,016 unconfirmed ASPs that were officially confirmed by the Plenary.
