The Bauchi State Chapter of Persons with Disabilities has appealed to Bauchi State Government to carry them along by involving them in policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of the citizens.

The State Chairman of Persons With Disabilities (PWD), Mr. Bulus Samaila Ziya, made the plea when he led members of the group to Government House, Bauchi as part of activities to commemorate the 2023 International Day for Persons with Disability.

Bulus Samaila said people with special needs are experiencing various forms of challenges in running their lawful activities. He therefore stressed the need for the State Government to upgrade the State Agency for Persons with Disabilities to Disability Right Commission to enable them to benefit from government initiatives effectively.

Mr. Bulus acknowledged that his members have benefited so much from recent palliative distribution exercises by the State Government and therefore asked for more empowerment opportunities for his members.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who was represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Pharmacist Samaila Burga, stated that part of government’s concern to their plight was the approval for Free Education for Persons with Disabilities in all the state owned tertiary institutions.

Pharmacist Burga, while assuring them of presenting their requests to the governor as soon as he comes back, re- emphasised on the state government’s commitment in making them productive and purposeful members of the society.
