Senate to make laws to address economic challenges

Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin has stressed the determination of the Senate to make laws that will address the challenges facing all sectors of the economy. A Statement by the Special Adviser to the Deputy Senate President on media, Ismail Mudashir quoted Jibrin as disclosing this at the just concluded 9th G 20 parliamentary
Speaker’s summit held at New Delhi, India.

According to the lawmaker, digital platforms have impacted on various sectors of the economy. He stated that although developed countries have gone far in the use and operation of digital technology, developing countries such as Nigeria are tapping into the global trend, hence providing vast opportunities to the citizens.v

Barau Jibrin further stated that digital platforms are being deployed in the area of democratic governance and political accountability by the government, the media and civil society organisations.

Government, he added, is working with agencies and civil society organisations towards fully embracing the global open government partnership initiative.

According to Senator Barau, Nigeria’s experience of transformation through public digital platforms, is a testament to the nation’s resilience, adaptability and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of its people.
