Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the National Women Leader of the Labour Party has sought the support of women in Gombe State to ensure it’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, emerges as Nigeria’s next President.

The women who gathered in their numbers from all parts of the state, hosted the National Women Leader in a meeting where she told them that a vote for Peter Obi is a vote to turn away from the past and bring in a new Nigeria.

She told our correspondent shortly after the meeting that meeting the women in Gombe State has given her much hope that the chances of Peter Obi becoming President after next year’s elections are higher than currently expected.

When asked to rate the chances of Peter Obi winning the elections considering the presence of two old forces in the race, she said people should rather be asking about the current insecurity, inflation, dwindling economy and many other socioeconomic woes bedeviling the country, which is enough reason to make Nigerians to try something new.

She said, “if Peter Obi had not presented himself, we would have been left with death on each side, but we now have the option of something that we’ve not seen before. A party that has never fielded a Presidential candidate with such large followership.

” Most of us are coming out of the PDP or APC. We’ve had it, looked at them, everybody is disappointed and in disarray. Let’s try something new, somebody new, new face, new man. He did it in Ananbra, we trust he will do it for Nigeria. He is not going to do it alone but with all Nigerians”, she stressed.

Countering the the notion that the Peter Obi movement is only on social media, Dudu Manuga, a known civil society activist sai. “We’re not only a social media buzz, that is why we have come out to the streets in millions recently doing rallies.

“People are tired, they want change, a new beginning, we want a Nigeria that is working again. The youths are now taking their destiny in their hands.

” They are saying, no, don’t spoil our tomorrow, we the mothers are also saying no, the future of our children should not be destroyed. So, we have a chance of making it to the Presidency next year”. She boasted.

She assured that it is already a done deal with Peter Obi to give no fewer than 35 percent appointment to women after winning the election.

“While in Anambra, it was 40 percent appointment for women and not only that, it was strong positions that were restricted to men such as Chief of Staff, Accountant General, Commissioner for Finance, Head of Service among others.

“This was because of his  belief in women and what they can do. He believes they are committed and can deliver. He has not changed.  He believes in what women can do especially when it concerns governance”, she stated.
