4 arrested for vandalising JED armoured cables in Jos

Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, has arrested four (4) suspects for alleged vandalization of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED)’s armoured cables in Lodih of Rantya Community, Jos-South Local Government Area of the state.

This came in a press statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, and made available to THE NIGERIA STANDARD in Jos, the State capital Tuesday.

The statement stated that the command under the leadership of the amiable Commissioner of Police, *CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka psc(+)* has arrested four (4) suspects in connection with the vandalization of the Jos Electricity Distribution company’s (JED) properties within the State.

It said, “on 10/06/2023 at about 0400hrs, the Patrol Team of Rantya Division in collaboration with the Divisional Crack Team and Neighborhood Watch arrested one Tijani Bala ‘male’ of Last Gate Dadin Kowa who was found to be in possession of JED’s 75MM armoured cables.

“In the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to having received the items from one Nura “male” of Atiku street Rayfield, whose surname is unknown and is now at large. The said Nura is believed to have vandalized the JED armoured cables somewhere in Rantya, known as Lodih and brought them to him for sale”, disclosed the statement.

However, the Commissioner, through the Command’s PPRO revealed that, the suspect after his arrest, tried to bribe the Police and Neighborhood Watch officers with the sum of Fifteen Thousand (#15000) Naira to cover his crime, but was resisted and was currently being detained at the Rantya Divisional Headquarters for further investigation while efforts wre on top gear to ensure that the said Nura was found and brought to book.

He also disclosed that, the command with the cooperation of JED staff, one Tersur Suswam ‘male’, who came to the Police Station and volunteered his statement, was able to achieve this success saying, “the command wishes to thank the good people of Lodih Community for giving the Police timely information which has helped us greatly and urges all other Communities to do the same by forming Security Committees in their areas in order to avoid future occurrence of such acts”.

In the same vein, three suspects have been arrested on 11/06/2023 and were currently being detained at the Anglo-Jos Police Station in relation to another JED cable vandalisation.

The Command released the names of the suspects arrested as, Henry Yahuga, Dauda Auta and Izang Azi respectively saying, “investigation is ongoing and further information will be communicated to you in due course. We are advising members of the public to desist from engaging in any form of criminal activity, as we will not take it lightly with anyone found in such acts”.
