CJ sentences suspects to 45 years imprisonment.

The Bauchi State High Court One, presided over by the State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, has convicted and sentenced four suspects (4) each to 45 years imprisonment effective from 1st January, 2019.

The convicts are Abdullahi Abubakar, Isma’il Adamu Musa, Usman Idan, and Umar Abdullahi, for offences of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.

Delivering the judgement at the High Courtroom in Bauchi recently, the Presiding Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, however discharged and acquitted the fifth suspect, Abbas Abubakar from the offences namely criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.

“On the 23rd day of November, 2018 at about 1: 30am, gunmen numbering about five (5) stormed the residences of Alh. Bashir Bukar Rimin Zayam and Alh. Sha’anin Mohammed, APC Chairman of Toro Local Government Area at Rimin Zayam village and robbed them of cash and valuables worth N1, 000, 000 (one million naira).

According to the prosecution, the convicts also kidnapped the son of Bashir Rimin Zayam, and the daughter of Alh. Sha’anin Mohammed, and took them to an unknown destination, thereafter demanded and collected the sum of N1, 400, 000 as random before releasing the hostages.

The High Court charged them of the offences of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping which, it said, contradicts section 4 (1) of the kidnapping, theft of cattle and rape (special provision) Law 2017, Section 3 (2) of the kidnapping, theft of cattle (special provision) Law 2017 and Section 1 (2) of the robbery and Firearms special provision Act LFN 2004.

The case which was filed as the State versus the five suspects were adjudicated at the Bauchi High Court 1, handled by counsels S. A Gumba Esq, Patrick Owoicho Esq, and Dr. Ibrahim Dannuma Esq.
