Police recruitment: 416,000 applicants to undergo screening

The Police Service Commission has announced that the screening process for successful applicants for recruitment into the Constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force will commence on January 8th. The decision was made during a meeting held by the Police Recruitment Board at the Corporate Headquarters of the Police Service Commission in Jabi, Abuja.

This was contained in a statement issued by Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations, Police Service Commission. He disclosed that a staggering 416,270 number of Nigerian youths have satisfied the initial requirements for the next stage of the recruitment exercise.

Among the successful applicants, 315,065 have been shortlisted for the General Duty cadre, while 101,205 applicants have been selected for specialist positions.

Letters of invitation for the screening exercise are expected to be sent out to the successful candidates on or before December 23rd, 2023. The screening process will include both physical and credentials screening, to be conducted in the applicants’ respective states of origin. It is mandatory for candidates to bring original copies of their certificates and other credentials, along with letters of attestation from their Local Government Chairmen and/or traditional rulers.

Following the screening exercise, the next stages of the recruitment process will involve a computer-based test (CBT) and a medical examination. The dates for these stages will be announced in due course.

The breakdown of successful applicants by state reveals that Kaduna State has the highest number with 31,117 applicants, followed by Adamawa with 29,848, Benue with 25,346, Borno with 24,854, Katsina with 24,239, and Bauchi with 22,958. Other states with significant numbers of successful applicants include Kano, Niger, Gombe, Yobe, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Taraba, Plateau, and Kebbi.

On the other hand, Anambra State recorded the lowest number of successful applicants nationwide with 1,141, followed by Ebonyi with 1,537, Lagos with 1,775, and Abia with 2,110.

The Police Service Commission emphasises the need for candidates to conduct themselves in a manner befitting Nigerian youths aspiring to be part of the Nigeria Police Force. The Board also issued a warning against fraudsters who may attempt to deceive applicants with promises of assistance in exchange for money.

The entire recruitment exercise is free and will be based on merit and performance at each stage.
