PRESIDENT of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Dr. Stephen Baba Panya, has called on President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, to rise up to the security challenges and should not repeat the mistakes of the past administration where there were biased appointments in the security architecture of the country.
He gave the advice while in an interview with a team of Journalists shortly after the Installation and Send-Forth ceremony of ECWA General Secretary in Jos, the Plateau State capital where he spoke on the state of the Nation in the area of security challenges facing the country recently.
The President said, “dealing with insecurity should be the number one of all things because without security, nothing works. Even if you form an all inclusive government or try to revive the economy of the country by fighting corruption without putting in place proper security structure, your work at the end will be tantamount to zero because nothing can really take place.
“For us to witness development, we must first put in place the security to achieve that. I would like to call on this government to not repeat the mistake of the past government where the whole security architecture was biased towards certain region and certain religion.
“It is not good even for the security purposes or reasons. Let them get people who merit these positions. Let them make sure that those they appointed to run our security affairs are taken from across and against ethnic line, regional line and religious line. Let there be a balance in everything”, he enthused.
Talking about the fuel subsidy removal, Rev. Dr. Panya, prayed and wished that God would give government the political will to deal with corruption there saying, “I believe the subsidy levy that is being claimed to be paid will not be as bad as it is so that, the ordinary Nigerian can have the benefit of the commonwealth that is coming through our natural resources that God has blessed this Country with.
“The problem we are having as desirable as subsidy in Nigeria is the corruption. If I can borrow a word from the former Prime Minister of Britain, that said “fantastically corrupt” that is associated with subsidy, I think, that is what is making subsidy in this country unattractive”, he opined.
