Elections: Police to deploy operational vehicles, security equipment

Ahead of Saturday elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the distribution of additional 220 operational vehicles, water cannons, Armored personnel carriers, helmets, bullet proof vests and tear gas canisters amongst other security enabled equipment. According to a statement signed by the spokesman of the Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the deployment is to guarantee violence free exercises in the three states.

The statement recalled that the police boss had earlier organised training for the police officers who would be involved in the election security management for the forthcoming elections and sought the approval of the federal government for the payment of their allowances and IGP other support to boost the morale of the officers during the operations.
