Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has inaugurated a high-level steering committee to ensure the successful implementation of the Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Development for Decent Employment in Nigeria (SEDI), being implemented by the German Agency for International Corporation, GIZ in Plateau State.

This, the governor said, would be achieved through collaborative efforts between private and public institutions by improving the institutional, regulatory and procedural framework conditions for entrepreneurial activities. It will also facilitate access to new markets and innovative financing solutions to create an environment that fosters job creation and economic growth.

Inaugurating the steering committee as well as declaring open the stakeholders workshop on the implementation of the SEDI programme in the state at Government House, Little Rayfield, recently, the governor stressed the importance of the committee in supporting the development of the programme’s scope, goals, outcomes, outputs and activities in the state as well as align the programme’s objectives and strategies with his government’s development priorities.

” One of our campaign promises and our core mandate is to provide a business-friendly environment especially for Small Medium Enterprises as they serve as the backbone of our economy. This, we are doing with a promise that our administration will continue to foster business friendly policies that will benefit the entire state, creating jobs and improving the lives of the masses.” the governor stated.

” In addition, we will explore the possibility of including other GIZ programmes in the state under the steering structure so that we can optimise resources, ensure coordination, and maximise impact,” he added.

He said the establishment of the state-level steering committee for SEDI in the state was a crucial step towards achieving the programme’s objectives, bringing together key stakeholders from both the public and private sector to create an enabling environment for MSMEs to thrive, innovate, and contribute to economic growth and job creation.

He charged all members of the committee to actively participate, collaborate, and provide their valuable insights and expertise with the aim of building a bigger and a better Plateau.

Our correspondent reports that the committee which has the Secretary to the Government of the State, Architect Samuel Jatau as member, is to among other mandates, support the process of defining the scope, goals, outcomes, outputs and activities in the area of private sector development as well as government policies and measures to support SEDI programmes in the state.

In an overview, Head of SEDI programme, Marcus Wauschkuhn, explained that GIZ has sustained collaboration with the private sector to create jobs.

The workshop, which had stakeholders drawn from both the public institutions in the state and the private sector, stressed the need for steps to be taken by GIZ to build the capacity of network and business clusters on the Plateau.
