Gochin goes home, laid to rest today

THE body of Nana Huldah Kopkama Gochin, the wife of a one time Editor of THE NIGERIA STANDARD newspaper and former Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Plateau State Water Board, Nde Yusuf Kopkama Gochin, has been laid to rest in Ampang District of Kanke Local Government Area.

She was also the immediate elder sister to the former General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Plateau Publishing Corporation (PPC), the Publishers of the famous newspapers, THE NIGERIA STANDARD and SUNDAY STANDARD newspapers Jos, Nde Jonathan Ishaku.

Born on March 28, 1954 in Gwoza LGA of Borno State to the family of Late Rev. Ishaku and Kaka Keziah Ngwan, Late Nana Huldah Kopkama, died on November 15, 2023 after a protracted battle with cancer at the age of sixty-nine (69) at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Jos.

The deceased, whose quest for education after her Primary and Secondary School in Limankara, Borno State, gained admission into the London School of Secretariat, United Kingdom and came out with a diploma in Secretariat Studies in 1977.

On returning from the United Kingdom, she took employment with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and subsequently moved to the United Bank of Africa (UBA), where she worked until her retirement in 1997. She, thereafter, went into active politics and business and was among the appointed Councillors of the Development Areas created by former Governor Joshua Dariye respectively.

Known for her uprightness, Nana, was said to easily blend with whoever she comes in contact with and that jokes were never in short supply. ”Everyone loves the truth but not when the truth concerned you”. She would never let the truth slide no matter how hurtful it was.

She was born in the priesthood family and was baptized at a tender age on September 28, 1969 and devoted her life to evangelism and support for the mission at every opportunity she had. She was always quoted with her familiar slogan :”My Dad was one and so, I know very well the needs of missionaries”

However, while delivering sermon at the COCIN LCC Lowcost, the Associate Pastor, Rev. Ripji Merkuk, said, the only thing that God hides from man is the how and time to death and urged Christians to follow the right path through Christ Jesus because heaven is real.

He described the deceased as a lover of the Lord in words and action and that she would enjoy a better part of Christ because she died in Christ and prayed that all would be able to enjoy the grace and make it to heaven. Emphasising that “whoever dies without Christ, is dead forever because Heaven is real”

Late Nana Huldah Kopkama Cochin, is survived by: Nde Yusuf Kopkama Gochin (Husband); Nenman Gochin (Son); Kankemwa Shwe (Daughter); Shikirmwa Tabat (Daughter); Emmanuel Gochin (Son); Rotshak Gochin (Son); Kaka Keziah Ishaku (Mother) and many brothers and sisters.
