Piyo applauds rural women in food production

Plateau State Deputy Governor, Josephine Piyo has hailed women in rural communities for their immense contributions to sustainable development, particularly in the area of agriculture and rural enterprise in Plateau State.

In a statement by her Press Secretary, Martha Nyam, to mark the International Day of Rural Women, the Deputy Governor applauded the role of women in rural development, food production and poverty eradication.

She appreciated rural women for supporting their households and communities in providing food, generating income, improving rural livelihoods and the overall well-being of families in the state.

Piyo who described rural women in the state as dogged and resilient, said that it was critical that they are accorded their rightful place as active participants in the efforts to achieve development in Plateau State.

She noted that the Mutfwang led administration is sensitive to gender equality and women empowerment which are essential components of human development and basic human rights.

The Deputy Governor also assured that their administration is working assiduously to ensure local communities were safe for farming and other businesses to thrive.
