Use ad-hoc platform to recruit INEC leadership – PEF chairman

The Chairman, Partners for Electoral Reform in Nigeria (PEF), Ezenwa Nwagwu has recommended an ad-hoc platform consisting of civil society, media, security, judiciary among others for the recruitment of chairman of INEC and its commissioners.

According to him, the ad -hoc committee would recommend to the president and ensure that he has no power to reject the recommendations.

Nwogwu who spoke to journalists in Abuja, stressed the need for President Bola Tinubu to ensure the country’s electoral system is redirected.

The PEF Chairman, who is also a member of the Board of YIAGA Africa, emphasized the need for the ad-hoc platform to be set up with immediate effect. “My suggestion is that we need an ad-hoc platform consisting of civil society, media, political parties, judiciary, security agents and INEC itself. ”

He noted that what is required now is first, stocktaking, and audit of all the reforms that were done in the past.
