A group of women led by high class ladies on Thursday also converged in the Kaduna State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ to outrightly condemn the results of the 2023 governorship election on February 18.

This is coming less than 24hrs behind protests in Sokoto against the results of the gubernatorial election in the state.

The protesters were led by the trio of former Minister of Environment, Mrs. Laurentia Laruba Mallam, former Commissioner for Women Affairs in the State, Mrs. Maria Dogo, former National Women Leader of the People’s Democratic Party, Madinat Abdullahi.

Consequently, the protesters are calling for the restoration of the “Stolen mandate” of their candidate, Isah Ashiru of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

The candidate of the ruling party in the state, APC, Sen. Uba Sani was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission after several postponements.

The all women protesters who appeared in black to depict their agony and disappointment, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of manipulations allegedly orchestrated by the Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Prof. Lawal Bilbis.

The protesters in their dozens carried various placards which read “Kaduna People Elected, INEC Selected”,’ No to Result Manipulations, No to Election Rigging’, ‘A Stolen Mandate Not Acceptable’.

On why the protest was not carried out beyond the NUJ Secretariat, they said as law abiding citizens, they didn’t want hoodlums to highjack the process that could possibly lead to a breakdown of law and order.”

PDP in the state rejected the outcome of the gubernatorial election and gave a strong indication of challenging the results in court.
