Emir of Zazzau visits Lalong, harps on unity

 The Emir of Zazzau and Chairman Kaduna Council of Chiefs, Alh. Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, has paid a visit to Plateau Governor, Simon Bako Lalong at Government House, Rayfield, Jos.

The Emir was in the state to attend the 33rd and 34th Combined Convocation and the Investiture Ceremony on him as the New Chancellor of University of Jos (UniJos), as well as the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate Degree on him by the university.

He commended the governor for being a detribalised leader who has demonstrated an all-inclusive leadership style which should be emulated in the whole country by all leaders.

He called for peaceful co-existence and tolerance among Nigerians, stressing that it is a country with different cultures and ethnic groups.

He appreciated the hospitality he received in Plateau and thanked UniJos for finding him worthy as a candidate to be awarded an honorary Doctorate degree.

Governor Lalong described the Emir as a hardworking personality who is interested in development, stressing that the university is privileged to have him  as its Chancellor.

He recalled how during Covid-19 era, the Emir chaired a committee set up by the Northern Governors Forum on youth and women issues coming up with brilliant outcomes that were recommended as a template for governors.

Lalong also recalled that there was a greater level of unity in Nigeria with practice of ethnic and religious tolerance compared to the polarisation that the nation is witnessing today.

The governor called on all traditional rulers to sue for peaceful coexistence in their domains adding: “If there is peace in the North, there will be peace in Nigeria”.

He officially presented a congratulatory letter to the Emir for the conferment of a doctorate degree, and best wishes as he embarks on his new job as new UniJos Chancellor.
