Incoming lawmakers promise people oriented legislation

Members elect for the 10th Benue State House of Assembly have expressed readiness to embark on people-oriented legislations that will better the lots of their constituents.

Some of the incoming lawmakers who spoke to Sunday Standard at the Precious Event Centre Makurdi during the issuance of Certificate of Return by Independent National Electoral Commission said having been in the trenches with the people over the years, they have a better understanding of the yearnings and aspirations of their constituents and will initiate legislations that will bring succour to them.

Member -elect for Gboko East state constituency Hon. Mrs. Becky Orpin (APC) told our correspondent that she will prioritise legislations that will engender good governance especially for the women while her counterpart from Gwer East state constituency, Hon. Elias Audu (APC) said his victory was an opportunity to contribute his quota to the development of the state.

He said he will redefine legislation, prioritise people’s welfare through affordable quality education, farm inputs for improved agricultural production.

The member- elect maintained that he will initiate a legislation that will provide enabling environment for “nobody to become somebody in the near future”.

In his interaction, member- elect for Okpokwu state constituency, Rt. Hon. Anthony Agom (PDP) said his second coming as state parliamentarian will afford him the opportunity to touch areas that he has not been able to touch since according to him, his constituents have not been where they supposed to be.

He argued that there will be no issue of party affiliation while in the house for legislative business but will rather support any bill that will bring succour and positive changes to Okpokwu state constituency in particular and Benue State at large while those that will be anti-people will be opposed, fought and roundly rejected.

His counterpart from the recently restored Agasha state constituency, Dr. Boniface Iangba Ortese (APC) told our correspondent that he will leave no legislation untouched to ensure the return of over 80 percent of his constituents to their ancestral homes who he said are currently living in different IDPs across the state.
