PLHA constitutes additional standing committees

In order to effectively manage activities of the Tenth Assembly, the Plateau State House of Assembly (PLHA), has constituted additional nineteen (19) House Standing Committees, bringing the number of its committees to twenty four (24).

The House Standing Committees and their respective chairmen were announced by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Moses Thomas Sule, during plenary.

Recall that the Speaker had in July, constituted five (5) House Standing Committees which included that of Selection, Rules, Business, Inter-governmental and Inter-parliamentarian, Services and Welfare, Labour and Security and that of Fund Management.

Shortly after pronouncing the committees, he directed the clerk of the House to prepare the list of those who will serve as secretaries to the respective committees and submit to his office within the shortest possible time.

While issuing a warning, Rt. Hon. Sule directed that no director should be appointed to serve as secretary of any committee for whatever reason, adding that no committee should also embark on an oversight function without the approval of the Speaker.

Some of the constituted committees include the following: Education, Science and Technology which is to be chaired by Hon. Philip Jwe with the deputy as Hon.Nanbol Rimvyat, Health has as chairman, Hon. Salome Wanglek while the deputy chairman is Hon. Cornelius Doeyok.

For the committee on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Samaila Bala is the chairman and Hon. Danjuma Azi is the deputy chairman. Appropriation has as chairman, Hon. Danjuma Azi and Paul Datugun as deputy.

Women Affairs and Social Development has Hon. Happiness Akawu as chairman, her deputy is Hon.Salome Wanglek, while that of Youth and Sports has Hon. Joseph Gokum as Chairman, to be deputized by Hon. Philip Jwe.

The Committee on Housing and Urban Development is to be chaired by Hon. Nanbol Rimvyat, with Hon. Adamu Aliyu serving as the deputy chairman.

Others are Environment and Solid Minerals which has as chairman, Hon. Kalamu Idris and Hon. Danjuma Azi as deputy chairman, while that of Judiciary, Ethics and Privileges is to be chaired by Hon. Adamu Aliyu with Hon. Nannim Joseph as deputy chairman.
