Plateau State House of Assembly (PLHA), has suspended the Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Council, Isaac Kwallu and that of Kanam, Abbas Wokdung for a period of three months.

This was issued in a communication by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abok Nuhu Ayuba at Tuesday’s plenary, following a unanimous vote by members.

Briefing journalists shortly after, Philip Peter Dasun, Chairman House Committee on Information and member representing Pankshin North constituency, said the suspension was as a result of their flagrant disregard to legislative directives.

According to him, it also has to do with their non payment of entitlements belonging to councillors from the two local government areas who were suspended by the chairmen.

“The continuous disregard for the rule of law, which the PLHA stands for by chairmen of Qua’an Pan and Kanam LGCs has made it necessary for the gavel to go down on them, by way of suspension”, he said.

When asked if the suspension had anything to do with Isaac Kwallu’s political ambition of running for the southern senatorial seat as peddled by rumours, Dasun who refuted the allegation said ” politics is for everyone and anyone who has the intention to run for any office is free to do so”.

Speaking on what the status quo is, he insisted that it was only the House that had the power to issue a suspension on any erring chairman in the state, which it has just done.

He therefore, directed the two suspended chairmen to immediately hand over to their respective deputies, while calling on all senior officers to join hands with them in moving the councils forward.
