IED explodes in Taraba drinking joint

Several persons suffered injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED), exploded in a local drinking joint in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

It was gathered that the explosion went off around 9pm Sunday at the drinking spot in Dorowa, a red light district in the heart of the city.

Some persons were injured but no casualty was recorded.

An eyewitness, Peace Danjuma said:  “yesterday as at 9pm, we were at a local joint called Jika, drinking, when something under the chair we were seated on exploded.

“The whole place was filled with smoke while we took to our heels.

“We ran outside for safety but the blast broke my friend’s leg.”

Spokesman of the Police in Taraba, Abdullahi Usman, has confirmed the incident. He however said details are still sketchy, but men of the anti-bomb squad are doing their investigation.
