Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, has declared the Umar S. Fada-led executive of the FRCN Chapel as unconstitutional, illegal, null and void and of no effect whatsoever.

The Council views with seriousness the attempt by some persons to stand the constitution of the NUJ on its head through illegal conduct of election into the FRCN Chapel of the council.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Council, Asma’u Yawo Halilu and the Secretary, Gambo Santos Sanga.

In the statement issued recently, the council leadership advised members of the public to disregard the illegally constituted executive committee of the FRCN Kaduna Chapel.

According to the statement, the Credentials Committee that inaugurated the Fada-led executive committee breached the provisions of the NUJ constitution, particularly with regards to electoral procedures, processes and conduct of election.

“Article 6 of the NUJ Constitution, specifically sub-section 6 states that in all cases, only the State Working Committee (SWC) *shall* supervise Chapel’s election after other provisions stipulated in Article 6 subsection 7 (a -g) must have been complied with.

“In that regard, only the State Council shall carry out the final screening of aspirants before the conduct of an election and subsequent inauguration.

“Significantly, the Credentials Committee that conducted election into the FRCN Chapel, violated all the rules enunciated in the constitution and illegally went ahead to inaugurate an executive that was not properly elected in spite of communication to that effect.

“It is on this premise that the Council, based on the powers vested on it by the provisions of the NUJ Constitution, hereby declare the election and or inauguration illegal,” the statement reads.
