Gombe State Government says it targets no fewer than 450,000 beneficiaries as it commences the distribution of food items and agricultural inputs to cushion the effects of the oil subsidy removal on its people.

State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, stated this at the Palace of the Emir of Yamaltu, in Dadin Kowa, Yamaltu-Deba LGA of at the kick-off of the distribution for the first batch of 30,000 beneficiaries.

Governor Inuwa, who promises more social interventions to the people to stimulate growth and counter the economic challenges, said each beneficiary would collect one bag of five kilogram of rice, one carton of macaroni, two bags of fertiliser and two litres of pesticides.

According to him, “What sets this initiative apart is the strategic inclusion of agricultural materials in the palliative distribution. This decision resonates deeply with the reality that a significant proportion of Gombe population relies on agriculture for their livelihoods.

“The provision of agricultural support not only guarantees bountiful harvest, but also fortifies food security, especially in the imminent dry season”, he explained.

He said the insightful approach to the palliative programme reflects his deep understanding of the multifaceted challenges faced by individuals and households in Gombe State due to the ongoing economic downturn.

More than just a distribution of goods, Governor Inuwa said the palliative programme also exudes a sense of hope and solidarity and demonstrates his unwavering dedication to the welfare of every citizen of Gombe State.

He urged the people of the state to embody the values of compassion and solidarity in their interactions, stressing, “Let us reach out to our neighbours, offering a helping hand to those in need and continue to uplift one another through a united spirit of community. ”

The governor called on the distribution officials and volunteers to carry out their roles with integrity and responsibility to ensure transparency and efficiency.

Earlier, chairman of the State Steering Committee on the distribution of palliatives, Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi, assured the governor that the committee will discharge its assignment with the fear of God and to the benefit of humanity.

Abdullahi, who is also the Executive Secretary of Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, revealed that sub-committees have been formed at the local government and ward levels to ensure effective delivery of the items to the most vulnerable in the state.
