WICE holds workshop on writing skill

The National association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE), North Central (Women at work enhancing qualitative teacher’s education) held its central zonal workshop with the theme: “Equipping the 21st Century academia with research grant proposal writing skill”. This was held at the Federal College of Education, Pankshin Auditorium Hall in Pankshin.

Delivering her welcome address, the chairperson of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) Federal College of Education (FCE) Pankshin chapter, DR. (Mrs.) Peace Sorochi Longdet said it’s an honour done to FCE Pankshin chapter by the zonal coordinator of WICE to host this year’s 2023 workshop. She urged the participants at the workshop to pay more of their attention to the resource persons’ paper presentations in order to achieve the goal for the workshop.

The Zonal Coordinator of WICE, North Central Nigeria, Dr. Caroline Igbo-chi in her address at the workshop sincerely appreciated the acting provost of the college, Dr. Christiana Fwenji Zumyil, the chairperson of WICE, FCE Pankshin chapter for accepting to host them.

She implored all the participants to participate actively in the workshop as a lot has been put into the planning. Igbo- I hi also pointed out that the aim of the workshop is to equip the participants with skills in grant writing. And advised them to step it down in their various chapters.

She congratulates all WICE members who have bagged their doctorate degrees, appointed into higher offices and attained one feat or the other. And charged them to see the feat as a call to greater service.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Hember Emmanuel, who is a chief lecturer with the college, lauded the activities of the WICE, FCE Pankshin chapter. He said, he was proud of WICE in supporting the growth and development of education in their various colleges nationwide, and urged them to keep the flag flying for the betterment of the society.

Speaking separately during the opening ceremony of the workshop, the father and mother of the day Prof. David Wonang and Prof. Janet Diket Plang rejoiced with the North Central WICE on the occasion of her zonal workshop and considered it a rare privilege and honour to have been invited to serve as father and mother of the day.

According to them, the zonal workshop is one of those capacity building strategies that will keep the WICE members abreast academically, socially and morally to the current realities, therefore, it is indeed a deliberate effort towards equipping them for academic excellence, worthy character development and socialization in their colleges of education, families (basic unit of the society) and the society in general.

They therefore, enjoined all the members of WICE to be committed to this course in order to remain focused and up to date in their primary assignment of teaching, research and community service as well as in promoting peace, unity and positive social change in general, both in the college and at the homefront for a better society. They also urged all the participants at the workshop to take this opportunity to widen their scope of knowledge in skills writing and also to be able to step it down in their various colleges.

The high point of the opening ceremony was the presentation of awards of excellence to four (4) deserving staff of Federal College of Education Pankshin by the college chapter of WICE. The recipients include Dr. Sunday Jacob, Dr. Ziporah Duguryil, a former national president of WICE and she is currently the Director TETFUND Centre for Excellence, FCE Pankshin.

 

Others include Dr. Peace Sorochi Longdet who is the current Chairperson of WICE, FCE Pankshin chapter, comrade (Prince) Hyacinth Henlong Tuamyil, a former chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union (WASU), FCE Pankshin from 2007-2015 and he is currently the chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union of Plateau State Council.

Another high point was the official induction of the Acting Provost of the college (FCE Pankshin), Dr. (Mrs.) Christiana Fwenji Zumyil as the patron of National Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) by the national president represented by the national ex-oficio, the zonal coordinator and the chairperson FCE Pankshin Chapter.

In her speech an acceptance speech the Acting Provost FCE Pankshin Dr. Christiana Zumyil said, she is full of gratitude to the WICE National body for finding her worthy to serve them in the capacity of a patron and she assured them of, her unflinching support, commitment and determination to take the association to a greater height.
