Community urged to protect citizens

THE Leadership of the Business Community in Gada Biyu of Jos North Local Government Area said, it would put every measure in place to protect citizens who are doing their legitimate business at the Gada Biyu Motor Park as well as pedestrian.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Philip Eplong Senior Information Officer, Jos North Local Government Council and made available to the SUNDAY STANDARD recently in Jos.

They made the pledge in continuation of series of meetings with the Jos North Local Government authority at the Council Secretariat .

They noted that any person or persons that may be killed or injured within their business environment around Gada Biyu and environs without the protection of the business community in that vicinity would be held accountable.

They also agreed to put in place a mechanism to alert law enforcement agencies in the event of any threat to peace in their area of operation.

Following the unfortunate incident in Rukuba road, the Authority of Jos North Local Government has commenced meetings with relevant stakeholders in some parts of Jos North to look into ways to contain the killing of innocent citizens who ply the road or have their businesses domiciled within the locality.

Similarly, meetings where earlier held with the Business community along Bauchi road to main campus and Bauchi junction as well as the permanent site of the University of Jos.

Some of the decisions reached between the leadership of the Business Community of Gada biyu and the Management of Jos North authority to passed down the resolution to all investors and business owners, to prevent any breakdown of law and order within Jos and environs.

Chairman Gada Biyu Traders Union Lucky Onyebuchi and his Mini Bus Courterpart Akor Christopher salute the doggedness of the Management Committee Chairman for his proactive steps in reminding every citizen of his or her civic responsibility in joining hands with government at all levels to stop the activities carried out by miscreants who are bent on inflicting pain on innocent citizens while  doing their legitimate business.

They pledged their unflinching support to have meetings with the Business community within Gada biyu and Rukuba road to inform them about the resolutions made by them to protect and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

Management Committee Chairman of Jos North Local Government Shehu Bala Usman who appreciated the contributions and goodwill of the leadership of various Traders Unions in Gada biyu to his administration, noted that it is against the doctrine of Christianity and Islam to take life of anyone.

Management Committee Chairman of Jos North Local Government has presented relief material to victims of Yelwa Zangam in Jos North Local Government Area.

This was part of his administration’s Social Responsibility to alleviate the plight of Victims of the recent attacks within the jos community.

Supervisory Councilor for Social Services Peter Kaze who represented the chairman donated some items including bags of rice and assured them that the Council is deeply touched by the incident.

A community leader Ajida Isa, who received the relief material items on behalf of the affected communities.
