Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang has attended the Federation Cup final organized by the Plateau State Football Association between Plateau United Football Club of Jos and their home rivals, Mighty Jets International Football Club, played at the Zaria Road Stadium, recently.

Governor Mutfwang, who took the opening kick to much applause and cheers from the spectators, returned to seat from where he watched the proceedings with keen interest.

In the first stanza of the game, both teams cautiously traded tackles to avoid unnecessary mistakes that would create any openings for their opponents.

But Plateau United, who are one time champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League(NPFL) and currently playing in the League, dominated the match but missed a lot of goal-scoring chances. The game ended in a 1-1 draw with both goals scored through penalties awarded by the center referee during the match.

Without extra time, the game went straight to the penalty shootout in which Plateau United triumphed over Mighty Jets 3-1.

Highpoint of the tournament was the presentation of the trophy to the winners by the governor.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, Plateau State Football Association, PFA, Hon. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, has disclosed that the Governor’s Cup finals between Jos North and Mangu local governments areas will be played at the Mangu Mini Stadium on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

He made this disclosure in a statement signed by the Association’s Assistant Secretary, Wapdiyel Keifas, which was made available to The Nigeria Standard Sports Desk, noting that choosing Mangu was to attest to the world that peace had returned to the local government area.

According to the statement, “We picked Mangu instead of the usual Jos in order to show the whole world that peace has returned to the Local Government Area and also to fulfill our promise of taking football development not only to the Local Government Areas but to districts and wards.”

Kwande further stated that he wouldn’t have got this far without the vibrant inputs of his executive council members who had worked with him round the clock towards ensuring the achievement of their mandate.

He commended Governor Mutfwang’s resilience and foresight for transforming not only sports but all other sectors of the state’s economy.
