Prioritise growth, development of Nigerian league – NFF President

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusua, has urged the newly inaugurated league boards to prioritize the growth and development of the Nigerian Football League. The NFF recently inaugurated three league boards – Nigeria National League (NNL), Nationwide League One (NLO), and Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) – with the aim of strengthening and advancing the country’s domestic football.

During the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, Gusua emphasized the importance of having clear plans to sustain the organization of matches and fulfill responsibilities before the start of any season. He expressed the NFF’s commitment to selecting individuals of high calibre, integrity, and drive for the league boards, ensuring that the leagues receive the necessary support and resources.

Gusua lauded the successful organization of the Nigeria Premier Football League in the previous season and stressed the importance of maintaining the positive momentum. He called on the newly appointed boards to not only sustain but also enhance the progress made, aiming to propel Nigerian domestic football to new heights of excellence.

The NFF President highlighted the crucial role of the leagues in driving the development of football in Nigeria, stating that they must work towards transforming the sport into a robust and profitable business. He emphasized the government’s recognition of sports as a business and urged the league boards to develop effective marketing strategies and media plans to promote the NNL, NWFL, and NLO effectively.

The newly appointed league boards for the NNL include Dr. George Aluo as Chairman, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki as Vice Chairman, Emmanuel Attah as the CEO, and other members like Yakubu Sarma, Sani Mohammed, Dr. Donald Ikpe, Joseph Ebowusim, and Dotun Sanusi.

The boards for the NLO feature Hon. Salas Agara as Chairman, Adeoye Adepeju as Vice Chairman, Hassan Garo as CEO, and other members including Sabo Duste, Ogheneochuko Ambakedermo, Tunji Onatola, Barr. Bucknor Akinlade, and Danladi Ibrahim.

Lastly, the NWFL board consists of Nkechi Obi as Chairman, Hussaina Suileman as Vice Chairman, and members include Rukayat Alaya, Hadiza Musa, retired FIFA, Ayodele Thomas, Ehiobor Henrietta, and Danny Nazzal.
