Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State says his administration is poised to revamp the sports sector in the state by giving serious attention to the state’s football team, Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi.

The governor who spoke recently in Makurdi during a phone-in programme in commemoration of his first 100 days in office said his administration will also bring back sports competitions such as Governor’s Cup, Inter – state Football Competition as well as all secondary school games.

Governor Alia said other programmes such as ICT training which he said has already started, will become a constant thing during his administration as according to him, it will take youths off the streets thereby curtailing criminality.

He said women empowerment schemes are also on the front burner of his administration to enable women in the state to become self-reliant in order to support their families.

He added that as an agrarian state, his administration will support the people with improved agricultural inputs such as hybrid palm seedlings. These, he said, would enable them to have something that they can always fall back on.

The governor however warned against inflammatory and unsubstantiated statements from members of the public. He explained that such actions cause divisions and also pose security threats, insisting that those caught in the act will be made to explain their sources of information to security agencies.

In his contribution, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Tersoo Kula assured people of the state that Governor Alia led administration will not betray the people’s mandate.

He further assured the people of the governor’s willingness and readiness to provide more democracy dividends for the people, adding that Benue State was in safe hands under his boss.
