Ireland, FCTA to plant 1,000 trees

The government of the Republic of Ireland, in partnership with the Federal Capital Territory, ( FCTA) ,Abuja, has commenced Greening Abuja Initiative with the planting of 1000 trees.

The initiative, which is in commemoration of Irish National Day, St Patrick’s Day, would embark on the tree planting before the middle of the year, June. Peter Ryan, the Irish Ambassador to Nigeria told journalists in Abuja that his country’s collaboration with FCTA on the Greening Abuja initiative was reinforced by the commitment of the minister of the territory, Nyesom Wike to develop a robust and environmentally sustainable federal capital city.

Speaking at the kick -off of the initiative recently at the City Gate, Abuja, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, while congratulating the Irish government for the celebration of its National Day , appreciated the partnership to improve the environment in Abuja through tree planting. Wike emphasised that President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ initiative spans across all sectors and is committed to reaching every corner of of the territory to fulfil the government’s mandate to the people.

To this end, he said, the FCT administration is opened to pertinent collaboration to accomplish this objective. While urging residents of the territory and everybody to advocate for tree planting in their respective communities, the minister emphasised the importance of planting trees. He pointed out its crucial role in combating climate change.
