Kidnapping: Mangu residents cry out to FG

THE rising trend of kidnappings and robbery cases within Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State have become worrisome to all and sundry thereby making the people to live in palpable fear as they do not know who the next victim would be.

As a result of these unfortunate cases, the people of the area are calling on the Federal Government to come to their aid by deploying more security personnel’s to help curb the incessant attacks being meted on innocent citizens.

An investigation carried out by the SUNDAY STANDARD Newspaper revealed that the people of the local government area no longer sleep with their eyes closed due to unprovoked attacks always unleashed on them yet nothing seemed to be done by the security agency’s saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property.

According to investigations by our correspondent, sophisticated weapons used by these culprits to perpetrate these heinous acts have become a matter of great concern to them which they posited if nothing was done, the consequences on the people would be beyond human comprehension.

Robbery incidences according to our Reporter in the area have become a child’s play where the robbers operate by robbing at any time they so wished and vanished into thin air without confrontation from any quarter.

Investigations revealed that traditional rulers were also a prey when in December, 2021, the Sum Pyem, HRH Mato Dakat was kidnapped,followed by the District Head of Pushit,HRH Diket Gupiya and the District Head of Panyam, HRH, Engr.Aminu Derwam.

According to our investigations the daughter and wife of the former Commissioner for Commerce and Industries,Idi Bamaiyi were kidnapped apart from that of Aircraft Engineer Gershon and Elder Simon   all in the local government area.

Our man reports that these are very few names mentioned from the many who have fallen victims in the hands of the dare devils.

Few people who spoke to our correspondent said the activities of the kidnappers has become a night mare and urged security at all levels to work in synergy to nib their activities in the bud.

They said the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Council,Hon. Minister Daput is insensitive to the plight of the people and cannot defend or protect their interest in whatever.

A Human Rights Activist,Jerry Datim who spoke bitterly revealed the rate of kidnappings and robbery cases  are on the surge  and that if nothing is done business men would have to relocate for the fear of the unknown.

Mr Datim lamented that it was unfair for a culprit who was said to have been arrested be seen the following day walking on the street free as an innocent person.

Our correspondent who was in the Local Government Council Headquarter to have a chat with the Chairman, Honourable Minister Daput could not yield any result as he was said not to be indisposed.

At the Divisional Police Headquarters, Mangu, the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) was not in but an officer who confided in our correspondent said, the police was doing everything within its power to ensure kidnappings and robbery cases were curtailed.

According to the officer who pleaded for anonymity said, as a result of the fight against criminal and criminality, the Divisional Police in Mangu loss two of his gallant officers as result promising to do more despite the lost of lives.
