Bauchi Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Maimunatu Sulaiman, a housewife, age 21yrs old of Kofar Dumi area in Bauchi metropolis for allegedly culpable homicide.
Maimunatu was said to have stabbed her husband, Aliyu Mohammed as a result of what was reported as altercation that ensued between them.
According to report from the Police, “Acted on information received on 5th July 2023 at about 2340hrs, the detectives attached to the Township Divisional Police headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer immediately rushed to the crime scene of the incident at the given address.
The statement signed by the Bauchi Police Command, Acting PPRO, ASP Aminu Goma Ahmed, said that the operatives on arrival took both the victim and the suspect to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi for medical attention.
“Consequently, reports obtained from medical doctors confirmed that the victim died as a result of an injury sustained on his chest, while the suspect sustained minor bruises on her stomach”, Ahmed said.
Police preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect (Maimuna Suleiman) stabbed her husband, Aliyu Mohammad of the same address as a result of an altercation that ensued between them on the 5th of July, 2023 in their matrimonial home.
The suspect had during interrogation confessed to having committed the offence, following which the Commissioner of Police, 32CP Auwal Musa Mohammad directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation.
This, according to the commissioner, is to further unravel the circumstances that surround the death of the victim, after which the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Another source of information received by our correspondent on the circumstance however, revealed that the incident occurred as a result of the late husband’s intention to take a second wife.
The Nigeria Standard also gathered that they have a three-year old child and the wife is also pregna when the incident happened as a result of the husband’s desire to take a second wife while initially they were living in peace and harmony.
