Police parade 20 suspects terrorising Gombe

The Police in Gombe has paraded no fewer than 20 suspected criminals who have been terrorising residents of Gombe metropolis in the past few weeks.

ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer, Gombe State Police Command, while parading the suspects, said the Command under CP Oqua Etim succeeded in arresting the notorious criminals following the co-operation by the public in informing the Police about the activities of the criminals.

Four among the suspects, Shamsudeen Salisu, Dino Abdullahi,  Abdurahman Abbas and Yushau Alhassan were arrested for criminal conspiracy, house trespass, theft and being in possession of dangerous weapons.

According to the Police report, “On 1/4/2023 at about 11:00 am, a formal complaint was received from one Abdulhafiz Iliyasu of Herwagana Quarters Gombe that a group of Kalare boys who specialize in entering people’s houses to steal their properties entered his house on 31/03/2023 at about 2 am and carted away his laptop and other items.

The next day the said complainant relayed information to the men of Operation Hattara that the said suspects were seen in their hideouts. The men of Operation Hattara rushed to the scene and raided the said compound and arrested the above-named suspects and the following exhibits were recovered, four cutlasses, two knives, two fabricated master keys, one HP laptop, two itel keypad handset phones, one constructed ax and wrappers”.

The Police report also said that one Garba Shehu, Haruna Saleh and Sulaiman Bakura were arrested while 12 others who are at large for criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit culpable homicide in Tabra Quarters.

The Police report revealed that, on 1/4/2023 at about 10 pm, a formal complaint was also received from one Abubakar Umar of Tabra Quarters Gombe that more than 15 Kalere boys came to his house armed with dangerous weapons and inflicted injury to his hand by using a machete. The men of Operation Hattara successifully arrested three of them while 12 others are at large.

Another set of suspects, Sabo Ibrahim, Hassan Ibrahim, Usman Babayo and Abdulkadir Adamu were arrested by men of Operation Hattara on 2nd April, 2023 while on visibility patrol from various locations which include Bolari and Herwagana Quarters Gombe where the following exhibits were recovered; One Dane gun, two knives and one constructed cranky.

Mohammed Auwal and Solomon Zephaniah all of Nayi Nawa Quarters, Gombe were on 3/04/2023 at about 1500hrs. Police report said one Adamu Uba aged 20yrs old of Tumfure Quarters went to Tumfure Division and reported that on the same date at about 1330hrs, he took the above-named suspects from the central round-about on his Bajaj motorcycle to Evangel area Tumfure.

On reaching their destination, one of the suspects hit him with a hammer twice on his head and as a result, he sustained a serious injury to his head and robbed him of his motorcycle. The victim called for help and they were pursued, arrested and beaten by some angry mob.

A team of policemen successfully rescued both the victim and suspects and took them to the hospital for medical attention, where they were treated and discharged. The investigation is ongoing and the case will soon be charged to court. Exhibit recovered was the Boxer motorcycle red in colour.

Another set of suspects arrested for being in possession of dangerous weapons are; Sadiq Muhammed Sani, Sadiq Garba, Usman Samaila, Abubakar Bala, Abdullahi Bashir, Huzairu Ibrahim and Mohammed Inuwa.

The Police report said on 3/04/2023, men of Operation Hattara while on visibility patrol arrested the above-named suspects at different locations in their hideouts. Their hideouts were raided and the following exhibits were recovered; six cutlasses, one knife, and one axe. The investigation is still on and the case will soon be charged to court.

The PPRO expressed the appreciation of the Commissioner of Police to the good people of the state for their usual cooperation and further admonished them to continue to be law-abiding citizens as the Command will ensure that criminals have no hiding place in the state.
