Plateau contingent at the National Sports Festival in Asaba, were shocked when news filtered in that results involving Naomi Monday, in chess, had been tampered with.

The news became reality when she was invited for medal presentation and was presented with a silver medal, when results clearly showed that she had won the gold. No concrete explanation was given for this injustice and Plateau was left to rue her misfortune.

As the unfortunate event was unfolding in chess, other athletes from Plateau were busy winning more medals for the state.

Six medals came in 4 from kung fu and 2 from weightlifting, on Thursday.

Samuel Emmanuel, who qualified for the finals in the kung -fu 85kg class, withdrew from the fight due to injury he sustained in the semi- finals. He relinquished the gold and automatically settled for silver medal.

The other results in kung-fu showed Abdullrasheed Abdullazeez won silver in +90kg class while Nkuma Obasi and Anthony Ejembi both carted bronze in the -75kg and-85kg classes respectively.

In Weightlifting, Daniel Christopher completed the day’s activity with 2 bronzes in the 96kg snatch event.
