21 sports federations conclude elections

OVER twenty two Sports Federations in the North Central Zone have elected representatives that will participant in the National Sports Federations elections, slated for August 30 in Abuja.

Mrs. Deborah Pitmang, Zonal Coordinator, North Central, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, disclosed this at the election in Rayfield Jos, recently.

The Zonal Coordinator opined that such elections conducted in all the six geo-political zones of the country.

“Here in our zone, in the process of the elections some of the federations were dropped out, because they will conduct theirs in Abuja, Federation like volleyball was among the federation that was dropped”, she said.

“Observers came from Abuja to ensure that the election was free and fair and as you can see, everything went well, we also have a good security network and you can agree with me that Plateau State is peaceful.

“Before the election, all the candidates were screened and the various positions were keenly contested for, but in the spirit of sportsmanship, those that lost accepted it in good faith and embraced the winners”, she concluded.

Also, Dr. Abdul Rabiu who won the representative  seat of Weightlifting Federation and also vying the position of the President of the Federation, said that if elected as the President of the Federation, he will ensure that the necessary equipment are being provided to the athletes not only at the national level, but in the zones and in the country of large.

“If elected into the new board of the federation, we are all people of caliber, we are dedicated and serious minded personalities.  Our challenge will be going to the Olympics in Paris, because that is where we belong, as you know we are the giants of Africa, we must ensure we maintain that position in the continent”, he said.

Rabiu emphasized that  if the board works together as one, they will achieve their objectives and promise not to disappoint Nigerians if voted into the offices.
